EU criticises Kosovan Parliament's call to suspend dialogue with Serbia

On Thursday 9 March, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) criticised the call of the Kosovan Parliament, earlier in the day, for the dialogue with Serbia to be suspended.

This "call for a suspension of the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina (...) does not contribute to a normalisation of relations [with Serbia] and is not in line with the commitments continuously made by Kosovo", the EEAS spokesperson stated in a press release.  "We call on all of the political leaders in Kosovo to continue to engage constructively in dialogue, to implement agreements reached in the dialogue so far and thus advance both the normalisation of relations and its EU perspective", the spokesperson added, saying that the county had always been "firmly committed to the dialogue and to a further normalisation of relations" between Kosovo and Serbia.  "Progress in the dialogue is a prerequisite for advancements on the EU path", the EEAS spokesperson said.

The Kosovan Parliament approved a resolution calling for the suspension of the dialogue with Serbia until Kosovo's former prime minister, Ramush Haradinaj, is released.   Haradinaj is being held in France because of an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia.  (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
