03/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 2 March, the European Commission announced a public hearing on updating rules governing administrative cooperation and fighting cross-border VAT fraud with a view to improving the functioning of the Single Market and tackling significant losses in tax income for the member states. The cooperation is governed by an EU regulation dating back to 2010. The Commission is seeking to learn from stakeholders’ experience on implementation of the regulation how it could be improved. It will be asking whether to introduce the option of joint audits and the role of Eurofisc, a network for detecting new cases of fraud. (EL)
