Twelve-month extension of sanctions for embezzlement of state funds

03/03/2017 (Agence Europe)On Friday 3 March, the Council of the EU adopted a decision to extend by 12 months, until 6 March 2018, the sanctions on 15 people (including former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych) accused of embezzling Ukrainian state funds.  These measures involve an assets freeze.  One person has been removed from the list. According to a European source, this person has been dismissed in Ukraine with regard to this embezzlement.  The legal acts will be published in the Official Journal of the EU on 4 March.  The EU sanctioned 22 people on 5 March 2014 and 15 April 2014, including former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minster Serhiy Arbuzov (see EUROPE 11033,11061).  (CG)
