01/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Corina Creţu, has proposed that MEPs at the regional policy committee (REGI) organise an informal meeting to exchange points of view on the future of cohesion policy. Whilst addressing committee chairperson, Iskra Mihaylova (ALDE, Bulgaria), the Commissioner suggested that, “perhaps we need an informal meeting”. The proposal was not mentioned by the coordinators when they spoke. During her speech, the Commissioner repeated the areas of reflection that are already known: implementation of a single regulatory framework for all funding, maintaining a policy for all European regions, emphasis on ex-ante conditions, strengthening the communication on policy fall-out on citizens. The Commissioner will be dealing with the future of cohesion policy, this week, particularly during a much-awaited speech on Friday 3 March in Warsaw, as part of an event organised by the Committee the Regions.
