12/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – In a press release published on Wednesday 11 January, the Community of European Railways (CER) called on the Commission not to apply the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS). This system is supposed to be used for exchanging electronic messages between economic operators and customs authorities, instead of using hardcopy documents. The CER claims that this system is adapted for the road sector but not for railways, where it would provoke many delays and surcharges, as experienced in the past. The railway organisation would like to use the Electronic Transport Document (ETD) instead. The CER informed us that this system would be much more effective for railway companies and customs declarations. (PH)
