12/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 12 January, the European Commission refused to comment on the announcements made by the Austrian Prime Minister, Christian Kern, on Wednesday, in which he said Austrian workers would now be given priority employment rights over workers from other member states. Nationals from other member states would only be employed if no one else was available from Austria for the job. Alexander Winterstein the Commission spokesperson refused “to comment about comments” or say anything about the legality about these possible measures with regard to European law, particularly the law relating to the free movement of workers.
