12/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 11 December, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn condemned the double car bomb attack against police the previous evening outside the Beşiktaş sports stadium in Istanbul. "We reaffirm our strong condemnation of all acts of terror and confirm our continued commitment to work together closely with Turkey in combatting the threat of terrorism", they said in a joint press release. Mogherini and Hahn reiterated the EU's "continuing solidarity" with Turkey and its people. A radical Kurdish group has claimed the attack which took at least 38 lives, including 30 police officers, and which has left around a hundred wounded. Over a hundred members of the pro-Kurish People's Democratic Party (HDP) have been arrested following the attack. (CG)
