Germany and Denmark must respect common rules on driving licences, says Commission

09/12/2016 (Agence Europe)In reasoned opinions dated Thursday 8 December, the Commission called on Denmark and Germany to implement the rules of Directive 2014/85/EU of the Commission on controls on the medical fitness of drivers and on driving tests. Readers may recall that this directive updates the common European rules on driving licences (Directive 2006/126/EC). This directive aims to take account of medical progress in sleep apnoea and to ensure that European drivers are trained in the principles of road safety in tunnels. So far, Denmark and Germany have still not transposed Directive 2014/85/EU. The member states now have two months to notify the transposition measures to the Commission, on pain of being referred to the Court of Justice of the EU. (PH)
