CoR suggests limiting worker posting to 12 months

09/12/2016 (Agence Europe)In an opinion adopted on Wednesday 7 December on the proposed revision of the 1996 directive on the posting of workers, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) essentially supported the European Commission's approach (see EUROPE 11507). However, the CoR argues that the period of time after which the legislation of the host country applies to the employment relationship in full should be reduced. Instead of the 24 months proposed by the Commission, the CoR suggests a period of 12 months. It also opposes the idea of a cumulative rule. It takes the view that a posting should be calculated only on the basis of one and the same worker. Additionally, it proposes creating a European support fund for posted workers who have been "abandoned" and a European directory of professional occupations and skills. (JK)
