01/12/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 30 November, the European Union condemned the recent violence that left 80 people dead in Bria, in the Central African Republic (CAR) and expressed its condolences to the families and friends of the victims. In a press release, the Spokesperson for the European External Action Service stated “This violence presents a serious danger to the reconstruction and stability of the country at a key moment”. The EU highlighted the success of the Brussels conference on reconstruction in the country (see EUROPE 11670) and underlined the necessity of a commitment from all the different actors in the process of dialogue and reconciliation. The EU expressed its “strong support for the UN’s Minusca Mission to protect the civilian population” and called for international humanitarian law to be fully respected so that European humanitarian aid can be channelled effectively.
