30/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 30 November, the committee of permanent representative of the 28 EU member states approved the provisional compromise reached with the European Parliament on the directive aimed at fighting terrorism. A partial agreement had been reached on 17 November (see EUROPE 11672). The compromise is now due to be confirmed next week in the Parliament's civil liberties committee. The directive would criminalise not only trips abroad to train for terrorist attacks, but also trips within the EU for the same reason. Helping to organise these trips within the EU, for example, by giving a lift to a person preparing an attack or buying that person a plane ticket, would also be punishable. Member states' efforts to exchange information would also be strengthened, as would the rights of victims. (SP)
