24/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – The EU has expressed its wishes for the election process that resumed on November 20 in Haiti (with the first round of presidential election and part of the general election) to function appropriately until it is effectively completed. The spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) explained on Wednesday that, “Despite a particularly difficult post-hurricane context… the government and the Provisional Electoral Council (PEC), with the backing of all the different political actors, have succeeded in creating the security and logistical conditions that have allowed the population to calmly express its right to vote. These choices are the result of a democratic process and must be respected by all the different parties”. The spokesperson added that at the moment that the two parties are both claiming victory, “It is up to the PEC to conduct, until its completion and in total transparency, the counting votes, which will allow for the results to be published in 1tendays time”.
