24/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – During a plenary debate on Wednesday 23 November in Strasbourg, the President of the European Parliament's Energy Committee, Jerzy Buzek (EPP, Poland), accused the Council of “blocking the excellent proposals from the Commission” in the trilogue negotiations for a revision of the 2010 regulation on the security of gas supplies. He emphasised that, “member states must indeed understand that the spirit of the Energy Union is absolutely essential. It is the only solution for guaranteeing the EU’s energy security”. As part of the trilogue, the Council and Parliament are currently examining two proposals put on the table by the Commission in February as part of the package on gas security: the revision of the 2010 regulation on the security of gas supplies and the revised decision of 2012 on intergovernmental agreements on transparency (IAG) with third countries in the energy field.
