22/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – A European Parliament delegation has been in Tunis since Monday 19 September, where it is taking part in the first regular session of the joint Tunisian-European parliamentary committee that was set up at a meeting in Brussels in February 2016. The head of the European delegation, Pier Antonio Panzeri (S&D, Italy), and the leader of the Maghreb delegation underscored the European Parliament's commitment to developing these relations, and also the recent adoption of a resolution on the country (see EUROPE 11624). At the opening of the meeting, the leader of the Tunisian Parliament, Mohamed Ennaceur, welcomed this development and referred to the suggestion made by MEPs for re-converting Tunisian debt into investments and development projects. He also hoped that in the ongoing free-trade agreements (DCFTA) they would achieve "a balance between investment needs and the specificities of certain sectors, such as agriculture and the services sector".
