Commission refuses to get into slanging match with President Rodrigo Duterte

22/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 September, the European Commission declined to be drawn into a war of words with the Filipino President, Rodrigo Duterte. The day before, Duterte had used the colourful term "fuck you" in a speech aimed at the Europeans. He was making an explicit reference to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on 15 September (see EUROPE 11625), calling for an end to extrajudicial killings.
