22/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 22 September, the European External Action Service (EEAS) announced that Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, met Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly ministerial week in New York on 21 September. According to the EEAS, their in-depth discussion focused mainly on the crisis in Syria, "in light of the latest developments" and following the many meetings on the subject in New York. Mogherini and Lavrov also discussed the situation in Libya, ahead of the ministerial meeting on Thursday 22 September, as well as the Middle East Peace Process and the work of the Quartet, in light of its meeting later this week. In addition, the EEAS stated that Mogherini and Lavrov "exchanged views" on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and bilateral EU-Russia relations. (CG)
