12/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – According to an ACI report (ACI represents European airports), air-traffic experienced growth of 3.9% in July, after a difficult first half to the year. This growth is entirely due to the EU market, which recorded an increase in airline passenger traffic of 6.8% this month, particularly in southern European member states (Bulgaria, +21.5%; Croatia, +18.3%; Cyprus, +16.7%; Portugal, +13.5%; Romania, +15.8% and Spain, 11.4%). Poland (+10.8%) and Lithuania (12.7%) also fared well in these results. By contrast, the market outside the EU declined by 5.5%, particularly in Turkey (-15.3%), following the Istanbul airport attacks and in Russia (-5%). This trend reveals the reappearance of a two-speed aviation market in Europe, ACI states in its press release. (PH)
