The NGO Testbiotech has reacted angrily to the authorisation for the import of three genetically modified soybeans by the companies Bayer and Monsanto for human and animal consumption, granted by the European Commission at the end of July (see EUROPE 11999), for reasons of public health. The decision gave rise to a modest level of satisfaction among the European biotechnologies industry, given the time it took for the authorisation to be granted.
