On Monday 22 August, the European Commission requested that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) set up a panel to rule on the dispute over Colombia’s discriminatory treatment of imported spirits.
On 13 January of this year, the EU asked for consultations to be opened with Colombia over its tax and regulatory measures on imported spirits (see EUROPE 11467). Consultations took place on 8-9 March but failed to bring a resolution to the dispute between the two parties.
