Brussels, 20/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 19 July, the European Commission welcomed the signing of two new gas interconnection agreements in Eastern Europe. One is between Bulgarian and Romanian gas network operators and the other is between Romanian and Ukrainian gas network operators. This follows a similar agreement concluded between the Bulgarian and Greek gas network operators on 27 June (EUROPE 11582). These two new agreements will be effective from 1 October next.
This development was made possible by the work carried out by the Europe wide initiative for an integrated Central and South Eastern Europe Gas Connectivity (CESEC) market. 15 countries are included in this initiative: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia, for the EU and Albania, FYROM, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine for the Energy Community. This initiative seeks to diversify gas supplies and increase the region's energy security.
A CESEC ministerial meeting is planned for 8-9 September in Budapest. (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
