20/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - Commission's milk sector aid plan not appreciated by the regions. The Committee of the Regions (CoR) believes that the €500 million aid plan proposed by the European Commission to support milk producers, is insufficient (EUROPE 11595). Jacques Blanc informed EUROPE that "the packet proposed yesterday by the Commission does not resolve anything". Mr Blanc is the rapporteur on the opinion on agricultural product price volatility at the CoR. He believes that the full force of the current crisis hitting the European milk sector cannot be resolved through a voluntary reduction. He argued that they needed to limit production in all member states "without any exceptions". He therefore pointed out that a 6% reduction in milk product volumes would help increase milk prices by 14 6% and the gross margin for milk producers by 38%, on the condition that this reduction were obligatory in all member states. The plan also appears to have created a lot of discontent among MEPs (EUROPE 11597). (PH)
