20/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - Eurofer welcomes EU appeal to WTO against Chinese restrictions on raw materials. On Wednesday 20 July, the European Steel Association (EUROFER) welcomed the procedures launched by the EU at the WTO on 19 July. This appeal targets the restrictions imposed by China in the wake of a similar appeal launched by the US on 13 July last on exports of several raw materials (graphite, cobalt, copper, led, chromium, magnesium, talcum, tantalum, tin, antimony and indium) , which are essential for EU industry (EUROPE 11597). Eurofer stated "Chinese export duties and export quotas have had a massive distortionary impact on both US and EU manufacturers". Eurofer also criticised China for not respecting its commitment to the WTO to remove its restrictions on raw material exports. (EH)
