16/06/2016 (Agence Europe) -Coreper and Commission approval on medical devices. There are now no obstacles to the adoption of new rules on the marketing and follow-up of medical and in vitro medical devices (such as prosthetic hips and pregnancy tests). The Commission indeed announced that it was withdrawing its reservations, whilst the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the European Union (COREPER) gave its support on Wednesday 15 June to the draft agreement obtained in May (see EUROPE 11559). The Council and Parliament are likely to formally approve the text at the end of the year. The new rules will apply three years after their publication for medical devices, and five years after publication for in vitro diagnostic medical devices. (SPj)
