16/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - European Sustainable Energy Week Awards 2016 for innovative projects. On Wednesday 15 June, the winners of the sustainable energy prize were revealed during an awards ceremony in Brussels. In the “consumers” category, the prize was awarded to the EcoGrid EU project in Denmark. This project demonstrates how smart grids can help consumers balance their energy requirements with supplies from renewable sources. In the “public sector” category, the prize was awarded to Pokupsko Council in Croatia for its programme of projects promoting energy efficiency and renewables. In the “enterprise” category, the prize was awarded to Green Brewery Göss in Austria. This is the first carbon neutral brewery in the world and its energy supply exclusively comes from renewables. Finally, the very first prize in the “citizens” category was also awarded to Green Brewery Göss. The chair of the European Parliament's energy committee, Jerzy Buzek (EPP, Germany) welcomed the fact that “these projects were chosen for their excellence, impact and potential to be replicated across Europe. They're a real inspiration to citizens, industry and public bodies.” (EH)
