16/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - No imperative deadline for responding to Commission rule of law observations. The European Commission has indicated that it has taken note of the statement made in the press by the Polish authorities, according to which, the latter are not yet able to respond to the Commission about its observations on the rule of law in Poland. The spokesperson for the Commission, Margaritis Schinas, however, pointed out that finding a solution was “urgent”, although no fixed deadline appears to have been placed on Warsaw at this stage, despite the Commission expressing its desire for the opinion on the rule of law in the country to be made on 1 June (see EUROPE 11563) so that the Polish authorities could provide their observations in the two weeks that followed.
