16/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - Council gives green light on web access. On Thursday 16 June, the Council adopted without debate the temporary agreement negotiated at the beginning of May with Parliament on web access (see EUROPE 11546). The text provides a series of criteria and technical provisions to ensure that all users, particularly those with physical disabilities and the disabled, have access to websites and applications in the public sector for smart phones and iPads. It does, however, outline a number of exceptions, particularly for certain kinds of old content, content generated on Twitter, live streaming videos and heritage collections owned by museums and libraries. The new rules are expected to be applied in their entirety by 2021 at the latest. (SPj)
