Brussels, 16/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - At the meeting of the committee of member states permanent representatives to the EU (Coreper) on Wednesday 15 June, the Czech Republic, backed by 12 member states (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Finland, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain) called for the conclusions of the next European Council (28-29 June) to contain a paragraph on the agricultural crisis.
The Czech Republic would like the European Council conclusions to call on the European Commission to make proposals to address the difficult situation that exists in the diary and pigmeat markets, according to a source. It makes reference to the conclusions of the European Council of March 2016 which state that the European Council “will closely follow the evolution of this sector of such importance for Europe”. The situation has deteriorated since then, said the Czech delegation.
On Wednesday, Coreper discussed guidelines ahead of the forthcoming European Council. Next week, it will discuss the first draft conclusions which contain a paragraph on monitoring the crisis in agriculture. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
