Brussels, 26/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 26 May during a press conference in Brussels, representatives from Europhobic and European far right groups in the Europe of Nations and Freedoms (ENL) group denounced the migration situation in Greece and what they described as the botched solution contained in the EU Turkey agreement of 18 March.
This press conference was called for by Janice Atkinson (United Kingdom), who explained that she had travelled to the Greek hotspots last week. She said that despite claims that the crisis had finished, on 25 May another 2000 migrants had been identified en route for the EU. Accompanied by MEPs such as Marine Le Pen (France), Marcel de Graaf (Netherlands) and Harald Vilimsky (Austria), the British MEP accused NGOs of stringing migrants along in Greece by giving them the "illusion" that the borders would soon be reopened. She also accused the Hungarian Socialist Pieter Niedermüller of nurturing the same message.
She said that in the refugee camps there was “no distinction between economic migrants and asylum seekers due to the human rights industry” and also added that Greece should not receive a penny more because it was not carrying out its border management work. Marine Le Pen reiterated this message and denounced the "false" start of a solution contained in the agreement of 18 March in which the EU had given in to "blackmail" from the Turkish President Erdogan. The populist representative also accused Greece of not wanting to manage the situation. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
