26/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Violeta Bulc wants to boost investment in urban transport. On Tuesday 24 May, during the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Citizen Communities General Assembly, the European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, said that the cities had to use the European technical assistance mechanism (ELENA) more effectively, in order to provide financial assistance to the regional authorities' attempts to speed up investment in energy efficiency and renewables. In this connection, the Commissioner pointed out that the mechanism had a €50 million envelope for 2016-17. The question of green infrastructure is part of the 12 priority themes in the Urban Agenda, which is expected to be adopted on Monday 30 May in Amsterdam by the member states (see EUROPE 11552). (PH)
