24/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Mogherini condemns recent attacks against civilians. On Monday evening 23 May, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, condemned the attacks earlier in the day against civilians in Tartous and Jableh, two coastal cities and bastions of the regime. Seven car bomb or suicide attacks claimed by Daech were said to have killed almost 150 people. During her press conference at the end of the Foreign Affairs Council, Ms Mogherini, explained that "What we have seen also today in terms of killing of civilians is completely unacceptable and makes our determination to make the cessation of hostilities work even stronger; our determination to work for the humanitarian access to all besieged areas even stronger". The situation in Syria (see other article) and the fight against Daesh were on the Council's agenda. (CG)
