12/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU denounces new terrorist attack. On Wednesday evening 11 May, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy denounced the car bomb attack earlier that day in Sadr City, Iraq. The spokesperson said that this attack had cost the life of at least 64 civilians and had injured 80 others. She explained that "This continues the appalling trend of terrorist attacks perpetrated by Da'esh across Iraq in its attempts to undermine the restoration of normal life and government in the country". She also reaffirmed the EU's "commitment and continued support to Iraq in the fight against Da'esh. It is of the utmost importance for all Iraqis to show solidarity and unity in response to the threat of Da'esh. All the political leaders are expected to engage constructively in the interest of the Iraqi people and to overcome their differences to allow a united effort to restore peace to their country". (CG)
