14/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - No Dutch decision on association agreement before British referendum. The Dutch Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, informed the Dutch parliament on Wednesday, 13 April that his government would not make a decision on the EU/Ukraine association agreement that had been rejected during the Dutch referendum (see EUROPE 11537), before the British referendum on belonging to the EU took place on 23 June. Seeking to obtain a solution with his European partners, which have all ratified the agreement, Mr Rutte, quoted by the, EU Observer, said that "Our political estimation, based on the first signals we received from our European partners, is that they want that [the UK referendum] out of the way first". According to the latter, withdrawing the ratification law would undermine those talks, which he hopes to have with his partners. Only a public debate in Brussels about the Dutch referendum could lead to political conclusions, adding that he was aiming at such a resolution “before the summer”. (CG)
