11/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - 20 ministers concerned about Mercosur negotiations. During the Agriculture Council on Monday 11 April in Luxembourg, 20 ministers opposed the EU offer in the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries containing proposals on quotas applied to sensitive products (see EUROPE 11518). Commissioner Phil Hogan indicated that the draft offer had been presented to EU countries and that the study on the cumulative effect of all the free trade agreements in the past and future would be published in September. He recognised that ministers had been cautious on the offer that could be made in an effort to avoid sensitive products (bovine and porcine meats) being subject to additional pressures. The Commissioner said that the Commission was taking into account the most sensitive products in these negotiations and explained that the Trade Commissioner understood this issue perfectly. He will also inform Cecilia Malmström about the concerns expressed by Agriculture Ministers. (LC)
