On Wednesday, 16 March, the EU Budgets Committee approved a transfer for a commitment appropriation worth €150 million as a means of stepping up the humanitarian response to the Syrian crisis. The Commission submitted a demand that was subsequently accepted by MEPs to earmark emergency reserve assistance for the amount of €150 million to cover the essential needs of displaced persons within Syria and other refugees in the country, as well as in Iraq, Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon.
