Two local UfM projects aimed at growth through regional integration

Brussels, 16/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - In a press release published on Tuesday 15 March, the secretariat general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) announced the launch of two Euro-Mediterranean regional projects - EDILE and EMIPO - aimed at promoting investment for “inclusive growth in the Mediterranean” that is more focused on regional decentralisation. The two projects are being conducted in collaboration with two bodies that promote investment - ANIMA Investment Network and iesMed.

EDILE (Economic Development through Inclusive Local Empowerment) will be undertaken as part of the ENPI CBC-Med crossborder cooperation programme that is financed by the EU. It is aimed at mobilising and promoting investment and strengthening local capacity. EMIPO (EuroMed Invest Promotion & Observatory) is an instrument to help business partnerships.

“More effective regional integration is essential for ensuring a better socio-economic future in the region”, the UfM states, advocating stronger connectivity, the development of trade and increased attractiveness for investment as well as a stable path towards sustainable development. This combination would “strongly increase competitiveness in the whole of the Euro-Mediterranean region” and its integration in the global economy, according to the UfM.
