15/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU hails election of interim president within time limit. On Monday 15 February, the European Union hailed the election of Jocelerme Privert by the National Assembly of Haiti within the time limit laid down. Privert will serve as interim president of the Republic of Haiti (see EUROPE 11485). “This shows the determination of the authorities of Haiti to give the country stable and legitimate institutions through dialogue and in calm and serenity”, said a spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. The EU reaffirms its support to the transition efforts “the main task of which will be the successful completion of the electoral process with the inauguration of the new president elected by the citizens of Haiti by 14 May at the latest, and thus to ensure political stability”.
