On Tuesday 26 January, the European Commission approved four new protected geographical indications (PGIs): - Stafida Soultanina Kritis (dried grapes grown in Crete); - Cantuccini/Cantucci Toscani (crunchy biscuits produced in Tuscany); - Asparago di Cantello (asparagus from the province of Varese in Italy); and Ternera de Aliste (meat from young cattle produced in the province of Zamora in Spain). The Commission also granted the protected designation of origin (PDO) label to Grenada Mollar de Elche/Granada de Elche (pomegranate fruits from the province of Alicante in Spain). These denominations will be added to the list of over 1,310 products already protected at European level. (MB)
