Brussels, 18/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - In the wake of the international sanctions being lifted against Iran, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Canete announced on Sunday 17 January that the European Commission will conduct “a first technical assessment mission” in Tehran in early February on relations between the EU and Iran.
Around 15 people will make up the EU delegation for this four-day visit, a Commission source stated. A high-level delegation, possibly accompanied by business people and European company directors, would then visit the country afterwards.
Canete said that all energy sectors could feature among the possible areas for cooperation - nuclear, oil and gas, renewable energy and energy efficiency - and he mentioned liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the Southern Gas Corridor plan, which is intended to channel gas from the Caspian Sea and Middle East to Southern Europe.
