18/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU expresses its solidarity with the people of Burkina Faso after the terrorist attack. Immediately upon learning of the terrorist attack carried out in Ouagadougou on Saturday 16 January, the EU expressed its solidarity with the Burkinabe people and stated its determination to work with all the countries of the region to tackle terrorism. “The European Union stands united with Burkina Faso and the other countries of the Sahel in the struggle against terrorism and in defence of the values of peace, freedom and diversity”, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini. “The Burkinabe people, in voting peacefully in the general election in November of last year, have clearly stated their determination to live in peace and stability”, she said, offering condolences on behalf of the EU to the families of the victims. The attack, responsibility for which was claimed by al Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM), left at least 29 people dead. (AN)
