26/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU invests in cross-border public transport in Western Balkans. On Wednesday 25 November, the European Commission announced that the EU is to inject nearly €57 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and from the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) into the development of public transport between Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro. The investment will help the three countries fulfil the objectives set in the EUROPE 2020 Strategy for South-East Europe, which was developed by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), and also to fulfil the objectives of the strategies for the Danube region and for the Adriatic and Ionian. The Interreg IPA CBC cooperation programme will focus on cross-border projects involved in protecting and promoting the environment, in preventing risks, in energy efficiency and in developing sustainable tourism. Another part of the programme will focus on improving public health and social services. (PH)
