Brussels, 26/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 26 November, Mozambique's national indicative programme, which defines development cooperation between the EU and this African country until 2020, was signed in Brussels.
The programme, financed by the European Development Fund (11th EDF) will focus on two priorities: - good governance and development, via budgetary support; - and rural development with a view to reducing poverty in rural areas, improving food security and nutrition, and strengthening the competitiveness of producers through electrification and road infrastructure.
European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica and Mozambique's vice-minister for foreign affairs, Nyeleti Brooke Mondlane, signed the financing agreement for this programme on the sidelines of the ACP Council of Ministers.
When signing, Mimica stressed the possibilities offered by “making the best use of Mozambique's impressive economic potential, notably in the sectors of gas, mining, hydro-energy and agriculture”. He also stressed the need “to make economic growth inclusive and sustainable, while maintaining political stability” in the country, which came out of civil war in 1992.
