23/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU extends mandate of Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia. On Monday 23 November, the Council extended the mandate of the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia until 28 February 2017. Herbert Salber was appointed to this position on 8 July 2014 and his mandate was extended in March 2015. When appointing Salber, the Council said that his task would be to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the conflicts in the region, including the crisis in Georgia and the conflict in Ngorno Karabakh (Ed: between Armenia and Azerbaijan), and to encourage regional cooperation.
