17/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Ministerial IEA meeting with nine emerging countries focuses on clean energy. Climate and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete will represent the EU during the ministerial meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) on 17-18 November in Paris. Ministers from nine emerging economies (South Africa, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Morocco, Mexico and Thailand) were invited, together with their counterparts from the 29 IEA countries, to this meeting focusing on the theme of “Innovation for a Clean, Secure Energy Future”. The meeting will address the evolving role of the IEA in global energy security, looking at how to strengthen energy security in the context of climate change given the shift in energy demand to IEA partner countries. It will also focus on the need to increase private and public support for energy technology innovation. The ministers are expected to adopt a statement on energy and climate change ahead of the forthcoming UN climate conference (COP 21). (EH)
