05/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU aid for reform of security sector. The EU announced on Thursday 5 November that it was granting financial assistance of €23 million for the reform of the security sector in Tunisia. An agreement was signed in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, on 4 November. The goal is to “restore the confidence of citizens in the security forces” and the EU has made it a “priority”, an EU press release in Tunis states. “Reform of inspections, recruitment and training” will be required, the press release goes on. The other focus of the project will be to “give the Tunisian state means to respond to crises” and to put in place an “inter-ministerial crisis unit” and improve border control. Three “rapid response operational centres” will be set up at the border with Libya. (FB)
