05/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Juncker tries to reassure Germany on completion of banking union. German press agency DPA reports that at a conference organised by German savings banks and regional banks held in Frankfurt on Thursday 5 November, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker gave assurances that the Commission did not intend totally to pool the risks inherent in national deposit guarantee schemes. According to Juncker, care should be ensured that all member states have truly operational national bank deposit guarantee funds. Nevertheless, if these funds are not enough to address the failure of a bank group, a reinsurance system for national regimes should be set up in the long term, he said. The same day, the German Bundestag was due to adopt a resolution hostile to achieving the deposit guarantee pillar of banking union in the eurozone (see EUROPE 11423). (MB)
