04/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Manuel Valls wants real public TTIP debate in France. Concerned at public opinion believing in a “hidden negotiation”, which is “fuelling all the fantasies”, France's Prime Minister Manuel Valls called on Tuesday 3 November for a “real debate in society” on the future transatlantic trade and investment partnership agreement (TTIP). Speaking at a debate with students from the Paris institute of political studies, Sciences Po, Valls said he wanted “greater transparency, conditions for real reciprocity between Europe and the US, and protection of our values and assets” “It's a debate that's far from over. We want to support a public debate on this issue”, he said. The TTIP talks entered a new phase at the 11th round of negotiations in Miami on 19-23 October (see EUROPE 11417). (EH)
