04/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Agreement on presumption of innocence. On Wednesday 4 November Luxembourg President of the Council of the EU announced in a press release that the EU Permanent Representatives Committee (Coreper) had approved (on behalf of the Council of the European Union) a compromise text agreed in trialogue with the European Parliament on a directive on the strengthening of certain aspects of the presumption of innocence and the right to be present at trial in criminal proceedings. The purpose of the directive is to enhance the right to a fair trial in criminal proceedings by laying down minimum rules concerning certain aspects of the presumption of innocence and the right to be present at the trial.
