29/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Machine tool industry has great expectations of TTIP. AMT and CECIMO, which together represent more than 2,000 machine tool companies from both sides of the Atlantic (mostly SMEs), are calling for the transatlantic free trade agreement (ITIP) to ensure compatible standards and rules for the machine tool industry. “More compatible standards could lead to considerable savings and increased production efficiency in the manufacturing sector,” they argue in a statement issued on 29 October. “The difference between the EU and US regulations often lies in the use of different legal tools for the same public policy choices,” they explain, calling for mutual recognition of technical requirements for machine tools in line with the international consensus-based standards. The two organisations support measures to improve SMEs' access to information and markets. (EH)
