30/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU calls for investigation into attack on Camp Hurriya. On Friday 30 October, the European Union called for àn in-depth investigation into a rocket attack in Baghdad on 29 October on and around Camp Hurriya, where Iranian opponents live, killing more than 20 residents and injuring many people, including Iraqi soldiers guarding the camp. “It is crucial that the Iraqi government fully investigate the incident and immediately step up security at the camp in line with its duty of protection of the camp residents under the December 2011 agreement with the United Nations,” said a spokesperson for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, adding: “The EU remains firmly committed to the well-being of the camp residents and to the UN-led process aiming at their relocation outside Iraq.” The spokesperson said: “This attack on unarmed residents constitutes the gravest violation of the Camp's security since October 2013.” (CG)
