01/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Roaming formally adopted by Council. During the Competitiveness Council on Thursday 1 October, the Council of Ministers formally adopted, without debate (point A), the new rules on roaming and open internet. The agreement, finally reached by the European Parliament and Council after long negotiations, sets an end to roaming charges in mid-2017 (see EUROPE 11354). The Parliament now has to endorse the agreement in its plenary session at the end of October, after its adoption in the industry, research and energy (ITRE) committee on 15 July (see EUROPE 11360). The regulation is expected to enter into force three days after being published in the Official Journal. Publication is planned for the course of November. (IL)
